NWRPC is a ten-county planning agency located in Spooner, Wisconsin, and is responsible for assisting county, city, village, and town governments with economic and community development, housing, transportation, environmental, and comprehensive/regional planning. NWRPC is also an Economic Development District as designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration.

 Located in one of the most beautiful areas in the Midwest, our region is home to over 5,000 glacial lakes and rivers, and 2.5 million acres of public forestlands. With a reputation as a premier tourism and outdoor recreation destination, our region features limitless recreational experiences and attractions, including world-class trails, cultural events and a vast inland sea, Lake Superior.

 This position will perform a wide variety of planning related activities with the primary responsibilities including:

• Conducting research, data collection, analysis, and preparing studies and reports on land use, socioeconomic, and general planning topics.
• Preparing and presenting updates and amendments to county and local government plans.
• Preparing grants, proposals, reports, and administering grant/contract requirements.
• Providing assistance to counties, cities, villages, towns, and tribal nations on planning activities engaged by NWRPC.
• The position will be involved with work associated with rural and metropolitan transportation planning activities.

 The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in contemporary planning principles and methods, research techniques, planning methodology, meeting facilitation, grant writing and report preparation, meeting deadlines, and maintaining product quality while managing multiple projects. The candidate will also have a high degree of political acumen and diplomacy as the position will work with the public and elected and appointed officials. The candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, and the ability to work independently and as a team.

 A Bachelor’s degree in urban & regional planning, geography, natural resources, public administration, economics, and journalism is preferred. Other professional experience to be considered.

 NWRPC has an excellent benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System, and paid holidays and vacation. Salary range is anticipated to be $50,000-$65,000 D.O.Q. including a sign-on bonus.
