The NW Counties of Wisconsin host special mobile hazardous waste collections during the summer months and all county residents are encouraged to participate. Residents in the following counties are encouraged to utilize ANY of the collections offered, the counties are: Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washburn. The products accepted free of charge to households are: oil-based paint (NO LATEX accepted, or empty cans), antifreeze, pesticides and herbicides, batteries (no alkaline or car batteries accepted), household cleaners, old gasoline and aerosols. NW Cleansweep will be collecting lead tackle again this year. We will be accepting tackle containing lead jig heads, split shot and weights. There is a nominal charge for items such as fluorescent and high-density light bulbs, and oil filters. Businesses and farmers are also encouraged to participate in these summer events. Agricultural/farm related products are free of charge for the first 200 lbs. to farmers, with a nominal fee imposed for businesses. Materials are collected via scheduled events held during the spring, summer, and fall throughout the ten-county region. Once materials are collected, they are transported to the Cleansweep hazardous waste treatment facility in Spooner where they are further segregated and packaged for ultimate delivery to a licensed hazardous waste contractor.
